Dental Bridges Types
Bridge is absolutely metal-free device formed by a cosmetic dentist and served for natural looking smile. A dental bridge (or pontic) is a specially made artificial tooth or teeth, which are actually sited between two healthy teeth and filling in the hole left by a missing tooth or teeth. The bridge is seized in room by porcelain crowns positioned on the healthy teeth on each side of hole which needs to fill up.

Bridges made of porcelain blended to metal and reflect light, this create an "unnatural" look for the tooth or teeth. Bridges lessen the risk of gum disease, help to correct some bite problems, limit the movements of remaining teeth and help to improve speech.

There are different types of bridges which you can talk about with your dentist and determine with the most appropriate choice.

You may choose bridges of the following types:

1) Traditional or fixed bridges – the dentist creates a pontic tooth with a dental crown on both sides to hold the fake tooth in place where the crowns are fixed over the remaining teeth.
2) Resin bonded bridges – the pontic tooth is joining to a metal band. The metal band in its turn is attached to the back of the remaining teeth with the help of white resin cement.
3) Cantilever bridge – it is suggested to perform when there is only one tooth on one side of the hole. While the traditional bridges have a crown on either side of the pontic, the cantilever bridges consist of two alongside crowns, but only one of them is linked to the pontic.

To create a bridge, your dentist must do three correlated actions: first - shrink, second - form the teeth to make space for the crowns, third - make a reproduction of the teeth. Then send this model off to a laboratory, where the necessary crowns and bridge are made.

With special oral sanitation, bridges can serve up to ten years. On the other hand, incorrect or infrequent brushing and flossing, not regular visits to doctor and excessive consuming of sugar and starch food can inappropriate damage the bridge.
