1. They are invisible, so that no one can tell that you're straightening your teeth. 2. They are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment, besides being able to brush and floss normally. 3. They are comfortable, because there are no metal wires or sharp brackets to irritate your cheeks or tongue. 4. They are faster. Adjustments in the office are quicker, and treatment times are usually shorter. 5. They are more efficient, as the movements are planned by computer. Often, with regular braces, teeth end up being moved back and forth in an effort to get them into the correct positions. 6. Since there are no brackets to catch food or plaque, the risk of tooth decay or tooth damage from braces is significantly lower with Invisalign. 7. Comfort and absence of sharp metal brackets makes it much easier to play woodwind and brass musical instruments. Disadvantages:
1. Not each tooth-straightening case can be treated with invisible braces. Some cases will have need of conventional braces or possibly surgical orthodontics. 2. As braces are removable, patient pliability is required. 3. It is newer technology, so it doesn't have the same long-term proven track record that conventional braces have. Whereas there is a lot of experience using Invisalign with minor class I crowding, there isn't much experience with certain other types of crowding. 4. Invisalign can't be used unless all the constant teeth are erupted; also it can't be used for patients under the age 14.
