The most widely available types of braces for adults are the following ones:
  Metal or “traditional” braces
These braces are available in different colors, it is even possible to have a gold – plated version installed. In addition, they are considered to be the least expensive type of braces and the most widely available one. Another benefit is that they are very strong and almost never get broken; and means fewer time – consuming while visiting the dentist’s office. Staining is also not a problem at all for the “traditional” type of braces.
  “Speed” braces involve a special type of bracket, which gets locked onto the wire. These ones are considered to be up to 40 percent more hygienic than regular versions because elastic bands are usually used to attach the wire to the tooth bracket, are eliminated. Therefore,  it should be kept in mind, that speed braces are more expensive and not as widely available.
  Ceramic or “tooth – colored” braces
Although this kind of braces appears to blend into the teeth, still it is possible that these braces would become discolored under the influence of wine or coffee. Ceramic braces are considered to be more comfortable than the metal ones. This type of braces is attached to teeth that show – in most cases to the uppers or upper front teeth. Ceramic braces are also available as speed braces.
  Invisalign or “clear” braces
In case if someone prefers to apply these removable plastic trays to correct crooked teeth, it should be kept in mind, that there is a necessity to wear each tray in the series for the prescribed amount of time in order to get the best treatment results. Although, it becomes impossible for food to get stuck between teeth with this type of braces, because there are no brackets or wires used. Invisalign usually takes about as long to work as ceramic or metal braces, the only exception is the patients with severe problems. These braces are also more expensive, however, it requires fewer doctor’s visits.
  Lingual braces
Braces of this type are usually made of metal, and they are fixed behind the teeth and on the side of the tongue. Although these braces are not possible to be seen, there is a couple of disadvantages – they may interfere with talking, in addition, they are more expensive, in comparison with other kinds of braces.
